Bill,

It occurred to me that we likely have an interesting demographic profile of people running/advising many brokerage clients these days. The majority have never seen a true bear market and further, most have never experienced real deprivation or fear of losing everything.
In fact, for many their economic lives have been one "success" after another.

In my mind, this has contributed to the bubble as much as anything. Having never experienced these things, they have no fear of them. One could argue that the people that truly run the show, have .... but lets face it - who wants to be the person to end the greatest economic party this generation will ever see, regardless of what the long-term consequences are for the future.

Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing ? ..... we all know there is - and inevitably, when it is over, there is hell to pay.

If the price of gold is being controlled to give the impression all is well (and I am in this camp and have been for a long time) ... then those doing it are just as culpable. Healthy economies (like most things) have a natural ebb and flow. Presently, there is nothing that feels healthy or natural about the present situation. This is not a particularly empirical observation, but IMHO valid nevertheless.

IMO there is too much wrong now; controlling Yen, Dollars, interest rates etc. can not correct this mess .... a long slow death spiral is about to be played out. How long and how slow is anybody's guess.

Some thoughts on a cold, snowy Toronto morning.
