Dan,

God's word, the bible produces conviction of sin upon the person that reads it.

The bible exposes our enemy Satan, and it exposes our sinful nature and the need for redemption through the one who did no sin, Jesus Christ. Job Chpt 1 Romans 3:10-23
Romans 5:vs12, vs8 6:23

Therefore the enemy to combat it encourages it's watering down by producing corrupted versions, and it is ridiculed or outlawed or eliminated or hated.

I have run up against much opposition from Christians over the years concerning my use of the KJV such as "Why don't you use a modern version?" etc.
Since the advent of the "love gospel" (no repentance) we are seeing multiple translations of the bible that are continually changing or deleting the most basic and essential elements of scripture. At the same time these versions are producing glaring errors that any educated person quickly picks up on and uses to refute the bible if they are opposed to Christianity or if they are searching for truth.
There is a non generic version presently (I have not seen a copy yet) that eliminates any description of God as being a Father figure so that He is not viewed as male appeasing certain elements.
There is discussion of a version that will delete the verses showing homosexuality as being sinful so as not to offend that percentage of the populace and those that have been ordained as ministers who are homosexuals contrary to scripture.
I made this comment because I believe that God has promised His word will remain as pure silver but Satan is doing his best to water it down wherever he can in an effort to make it ineffective.
My studies have led me to believe that the KJV is the most reliable of all translations and there is a conspiracy to change God's word as much as possible by Satan. At the same time if someone leads a person to Christ using an NIV does that make the person less saved in my estimation? Of course not.
Even though I am opposed to other versions I won't waste time on the issue as a hobby horse because that precious time can be used more wisely in spreading the gospel instead of dissension within our ranks. I have seen churches divided on this issue.
A man named Hugh that I admire feels as I do and we discussed the matter. He commented that when we get to heaven God will not likely ask us what version of the bible we used but "What did you do with my Son?"
I have chosen what I believe to be the best foundation for growth through God's word. What happens if that foundation can be attacked justifiably?
Here is only one example for version debate....

NIV

Matthew 5:22 "But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment."

Mark 3:5 " He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts,.....

KJV Matthew 5:22 "But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment..."

The NIV translation condemns all anger as sin by eliminating "without a cause" and can only be viewed as Christ committing sin which we know is impossible.

"...ridiculed, outlawed or eliminated or hated."

Communism obviously hates the bible. Relatives I have in the ever changing boundaries overseas are overjoyed to have bibles now where you could have been arrested for possessing one before.

Dan, you've read the postings on AG where there are some blatant enemies of the gospel who fervently pounce on versional errors such as what I mentioned from Matthew and ridicule the bible at every opportunity. Our foundation must be strong which is why I made these comments.

God's word is precious to me and it doesn't return void as He's promised.

One last comment here. It is difficult not to expound on this without going to some length so I apologize for how long this is.

I have a video of Dr. Alberto Rivera preaching called "From Rome to Christ." He was an ex Jesuit priest. In his message he described how prior to his conversion out of Catholicism to Christianity he would read the bible and in anger at seeing so many things contrary to what he had been taught in that system would throw the bible to the ground and stamp on it in a rage. But he always returned to it because the truth revealed to his heart that he had been deceived and betrayed by trusting in a system instead of God and His word.

Truth for me must be just that. Complete and total not distorted or partial. Truth must expose error and sin and man made tradition that opposes God's perfect inerrant word.

I'll go put my soap box away now and wait on your thoughts.
In Christ,
John
