Ram,

This news solidifies that ESS can now count revenue from its 56K modem. As pointed out by pundits in the 56K modem business, ESS
finally is able to ship its modem products after several years of
hard work. And ESS is one of the only two companies (no, the other
is not CUBE!) in the world that posses DSP and HSP modem products.
If you want HSP, ESS has it. If you want DSP, ESS has it,too.
If you want to work with audio, then ESS is the best choice now.

The other is Conexant, formerly known as Rockwell Semiconductor.

"'Worldwide consumer demand for Internet access continues to increase, and Packard
Bell NEC now has a terrific competitive advantage as our modem solution enables
faster Internet connections and downloads,'' states Skip Effler, vice president of sales
and marketing. ''We are pleased Packard Bell NEC selected our modem solution for its
industry-leading notebook.''

ESS Technology's modem chipsets have been tested by independent test house,
Henderson Communications Laboratories, the international leader in data, fax, cellular,
ISDN and xDSL testing. When compared to modems from other modem suppliers,
including Lucent, Rockwell and US Robotics/3COM, the ESS modem chipsets -- both
Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and Host Signal Processor (HSP) -- ranked the highest
in both connect speed and throughput of all modems tested by Henderson."
