Hypothetical situation:

About 5% of the population suffers from a disease which shuts down 95% of the function of the kidneys, the liver, the pancreas. The heart and lungs continue to function.

The condition will subside and 95% normal function will return after 6 months of the following only known treatment thus far:

The victim must share the circulatory system of an immediate family member who meets the matching criteria. 100% of those who don't find a match will die within 2 months. There is a 95% success rate for those who find a matching candidate who is willing to participate.

Now, does the government have a role in determining whether one must participate, or, having commenced on a course of participating in treatment, demand that participation must continue until the full course of treatment is completed?

If so, why and if not, why not?
