I disagree with the current wisdom that says NN must be taken over by some big telecom player in order to succeed in the long term. Building telecommunications & data networks is a systems integration problem. Inevitably, equipment from many different vendors has to be thrown into the mix. NN equipment has great inter-operability and the RBOC's can buy it without feeling that they are helping a potential competitor. From that point of view, the LU/ASND merger is positive for NN.

A point that I have made many times before: Would you rather have a quick 50% gain today on an NN take-over, or would you rather own an investment that will continue to grow at 30%(probably more) per year for the next 5 years? I choose option #2. The hiring of Alan Lutz and the changes he has made only reinforce my belief in NN as a great stand-alone investment. NN is a pure play on what will be the one of the fastest growing segments of the networking infrastructure market. I want to let my bet ride.
