IBM files $4 billion shelf registration
WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp. filed Wednesday a shelf registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission for up to $4 billion in debt securities, capital and preferred stock, depositary shares and warrants.

The Armonk, N.Y.-based computer maker is also carrying forward an additional $1.115 billion in previously registered securities, thereby making the total registration worth up to $5.115 billion.

Net proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, which may include the repayment of debt, investments in or extensions of credit to subsidiaries, redemption of preferred stock or the financing of possible acquisitions or business expansion.
