What you are missing is the fact that Intel did not have the overcapacity which the DRAM industry has had. When that overcapacity turns into undercapacity, the boom in semi capex will be on again.

As for valuations, I agree that they are high for where we are in the recovery, but that is a problem that will be solved by time. However, I definitely advise against shorting, because of the accumulating evidence of a coming recovery, and the way investors tend to react to such news. The time for shorting was Oct. '97 through Aug. '98. For people looking to put new money in this sector, my advice is to look to the small cap members of the sector, some of which are still pretty cheap.
