Teltek Signs China Joint Venture with Digitcom
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 1999--Teltek Communications International Inc. of Anaheim, Calif., Wednesday announced the signing of a Joint Venture agreement with Digitcom Corp.
The two companies will combine to deliver international long distance services between North America and the People's Republic of China.
Teltek has established facilities in China interconnecting with its network in Korea, Taiwan and the United States. The authorized capacity is 1 million long distance minutes from U.S. into China that will be expanded to 5 million minutes in three months. Alan Hsieh, Teltek managing director said, ''By joining with Digitcom, Teltek not only gains an effective North American partner to market long distance services between China and the United States, but the partnership also holds the prospect for the introduction of advanced Internet Protocol voice communications technology to the Chinese market.''
Teltek is the U.S. affiliate of Teltek Communications International of Taipei, Taiwan. Teltek Communications provides telecommunications network services to PTT telephone companies in Taiwan, the Philippines, Korea, and now, China. The company recently established network termination facilities in the United States.
Digitcom is deploying Internet Protocol telephony products and long distance services around the world using its proprietary technology in partnership with regional and national telephone companies. Digitcom's IntraVoiceCO central office technology makes long distance calls using the Internet or leased data lines to transport customer's conversations, lowering network costs significantly. Since the ''gateway'' to the Internet Protocol network is located at a telephone company central office on either end of a long distance connection, neither the caller nor the called party needs to have a computer or Internet access. Using voice compression and echo cancellation technologies on dedicated lines, the sound quality of Digitcom's IntraVoice is as good as that heard on conventional toll telephone lines.
