The thing to consider is that the RBOC's may not be as significant after this whole thing shakes out. I am not convince that Bell Atlantic can afford to shove one approach down everyone elses throats. They could open themselves up to competitive threat. CAP it is my understanding underperforms DMT. Speed will be everything. Will a six cylinder engine sell well when everybody wants 8? Other competitors will market away RBOC's market share over time. What I think is going on with the RBOC's is that they do not want to invest much in ADSL which they see as an interim technology. What the RBOC's are betting on is fiber right to the house. This is years off. In the meantime, they want to spend as little as possible on ADSL so that they compete with cable but still have most of their money for fiber upgrades. CAP will do the job even if it is inferior. Accountants are making the decision on this, not the technical managers at the RBOC's. What do are think?
