Synapsid,

You are correct that Yamaha teamed up with a HSP modem vendor
(rumored to be PCTel who has no DSP modem solution) and Aureal
teamed up with another HSP modem vendor (again this one,
Motorola, has no DSP modem solution).

Therefore, ESST is the only one of two companies in the world
that has both audio and HSP/DSP modem technology/competency/products
under the same roof. The other one,Conexant (formerly Rockwell), does
not sell many audio products. In this respect, ESS is also weak in its
product support experience in modem area.

ESST's modem technology also spanned from PC market to consumer market.
The fact ESS can support its non-Intel CPU platform and offer Internet
solution via its V.90 modem product is an excellent proof.

I am so glad PacBell/NEC selects ESS V.90 modem. This means ESS may even
have registered decent revenues for 4Q, 1998.

Rishi
