Thanks for starting this thread. I'm just a pup when it comes to online trading, and can understand the lure of it.

Just like slot machines, trading has the instant returns, flashing lights and numbers, etc. that cause some people to throw their common sense out the Windows (unless they use a Mac).

And thousands of more people sign up to E*Trade and others every week.

One effect it's had, I suspect, is to give the jitters to a lot of analysts. Stocks, especially hi-tech ones, behave differently now with so many daytraders and other online traders in the game. Swings happen fast and they might not be as grounded in predictable, tangible reasons as in the past (not that the market always makes sense).
