That's the price of success. If you went to a discount broker on a heavy trading day, and it wasn't clogged up, you would wonder why no one is using that broker.

On the bright side, if you manage to place your order, you usually won't get screwed on the execution (even if you get delayed reporting) because all the discounters use Knight as their primary market maker and you ought to get really fast fills at best prices.

The one big exception is Schwab, who uses their own MM, Mayer and Schweitzer, who are ripoff artists. I placed a market order to buy Ciena when the Tellabs merger fell through. Granted, it was a fast market, but Schwab took 10 minutes to fill a damn market order, as the stock was moving upwards. Of course, they filled me at the exact top. Coincidence, right?
