Hello Paul!

I like your insight into this IBM deal. I'm very curious to know what yu think about Lucent going after NOVL. I don't see Cisco doing it since it's already in bed with MSFT and Active Directory.

The Banyan acquisition seems good on the surface but what does that say for Windows 2000? (By the way, I have to share it's new nickname, Why 2K).

Lucent has gone through and now is merging with Ascend which I feel is a great move on their part. Ascend has been eating into Cisco's territory for some time now and their edge devices are very very good. I'm thinking that with Lucent and Ascend, we will see a true Voice over IP solution that works from end-to-end.

What's missing in that deal?

The software necessary to manage everything. NOVL has 2 products which could fill that bill: NDS and BorderManager.

I'll keep my fingers crossed on that one :)

Peter
