First Dolby-Certified PC Debuts; Dolby Brings Theater-Quality Sound to Gateway's Destination XTV

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 1999--Dolby Laboratories, the world leader in multichannel sound, announces the first Dolby-certified PC, Gateway's Destination XTV.

Gateway's Destination XTV is the first entertainment PC to incorporate Dolby Digital technology in the hardware and meet the criteria for official Dolby Digital certification for convergence products.

Among other entertainment technologies, the Destination XTV includes a DVD-Video player that provides both two-channel analog outputs compatible with Dolby Pro Logic Systems and a digital output for connection to a full 5.1-channel Dolby Digital Home Theater system. The Destination XTV is also the first PC line to bear the Dolby Digital logo.

"Dolby Digital 5.1 multichannel audio makes the Destination XTV one of the most exciting convergence PCs available," said Ed Schummer, vice president of licensing for Dolby Laboratories. "Viewers can enjoy the latest Hollywood movies, PC games and Internet broadcasts using a PC that provides the same thrilling sound found in movie and home theater systems."

Gateway's Destination XTV starts as low as $1,999 -- with Dolby-certified sound -- and offers a combination of enhanced television, home theater and digital media technology, gaming, and full-featured computer functionality.

The Destination XTV was designed to provide high-quality entertainment and PC components with enhanced video and audio functionality, astounding gaming graphics and easy Internet connections.

"Gateway is committed to building upon its leadership position in the convergence PC category," said Bart Brown, vice president of marketing, Gateway Home. "Dolby is a recognized leader in audio technology, and carrying the Dolby trademark on the Destination XTV assures that clients are getting the highest quality audio solution available."
