Word and Excel ONLY exist today because of the predatory sales technique applied
That is a matter of opinion. I was very close to these marketing issues as a competitor to MSFT in the late 80s and early 90s. MSFT built a better product than WordPerfect, Wang, and the rest. They also executed a tremendous marketing effort which focused on "features". They focused on the legal market and took it over in a matter of a few months.
Not long ago the products of the day were Word Perfect and Lotus 1-2-3. MS, backed by billions of dollars made on the OS, virtually gave away Word and Excel cutting into Word Perfect and Lotus bread and butter and quickly strangled them out of the market.
You oversimplify. WordPerfect was a difficult product to use. It required a lot of codes rather than the easier to use Word menu system. Lotus refused for years to release a Windows-based product because of a personal war between the president of that company and Bill Gates. By the time Lotus decided to jump on the Windows train, Excel had matched Lotus feature for feature and added more powerful macro and suite capabilities. You call it "strangling". I call it "competition".
however if alternative products had had the same time to progress I'm certain we would have had FAR better products - and a choice.
Lotus had the time. Wang had the time. WordPerfect had the time. The feel in the marketplace, including by us guys/gals selling the stuff, is that the leadership in those companies were arrogant, confused, and misunderstood the market demands. MSFT put feet on the street, focused on the solutions that the market wanted, and improved their products very rapidly.
You seem to credit MSFT's success to "predatory sales technique" and use of "billions of dollars made on the OS". I credit their success with focused marketing and good investments into what the market demands.
To say MS is an innovator just shows your ignorance. They rarely invent anything, rather they see what others are doing, make a public statement that they are "almost ready to release a beta version of their own version" of it, while they still discuss how they should get started on the project.
This statement doesn't even deserve a response. What great insight do you have that justifies your calling anyone ignorant? You are making some sweeping, emotional, uninformed, prejudiced statements here that show that you are fighting a jihad.
You have provided not new information whatsoever, but you are better than a cup of coffee to get the morning started. Thanks!
BTW, I looked at your profile and read your Kenny Rogers quote. He is one of my favorite entertainers, but the guy is reported to be totally broke, owes huge taxes. You keep taking his advice and you can be just like him. |
