Gary,

I would think that what LU wants most from ASND is the
intellectual capital concerning how to create products
in an IP (Internet Protocol) environment. Sure, LU wants
the basic core products that ASND has now and corresponding
customer contacts, etc..., but there will
be many more products coming out in the future as
VoIP develops and LU needs the expertise to integrate/convert
their old legacy equipment into new VoIP equipment. To
do this, they need people's knowledge on how to get it done -
no easy task, considering that it takes many years
for network engineers to learn their specialized fields and to keep
up with the rapidly evolving/changing aspects of network technology.
And it's too hard and time consuming for LU to create big
IP networking departments, on their own from scratch (a problem that
most traditional telecom equipment providers have; specifically
the Europeans).

Do you think this assessment is accurate?

If so, we will see this idea play out more fully as the European
equipment telecoms are further nudged to make some big decisions to keep up with the VoIP tidal wave. IP knowledgeable companies
are decreasing in supply. Partnerships and alliances are
one of the few viable options that I can think of.
