Dan,

I had to laugh thinking of my Texan brother drawling in the old english. The gospel with any accent would be just as sweet and powerful and I'm told we have a pronounced accent in our region as well.
I based my decision to trust KJV on studying the differences and origins of Alexandrian Texts and the Massoretic Texts. The KJV utilized the Massoretic while NIV, NAS etc. utilized the Alexandrian.
The Dead Sea Scrolls found in 1947 were from the Massoretic Text which supported the KJV translation.
Geographic locations figured prominently as well concerning these texts. The Alexandrian Texts are named after the city of Alexandria the capital city of Egypt at the time where they originated from.
Very far removed from where the majority of the New Testament autographs were written in Greece and Asia Minor establishing the Textus Receptus and the KJV translation. Historically not one of these autographs was ever sent to Egypt!
To my knowledge the original Greek will be different as well dependant upon which text is used accounting for the discrepancies that we have been discussing. i.e. all anger being condemned or only anger without a cause.
I've given thought to Mark 10:18 as well. IMO Christ knew that that man was going to turn away and not follow Him. So He is asking Him why are you calling me good? You don't believe it. Just a thought as we both know that Jesus was God in the flesh and He of course knew it as well.

Regarding the KJV possibly mistranslating Matthew's vs 22 you then would have to assume the NIV correct and me being greatly disturbed with seeing the impossible with our sinless Master.

Either way my friend, as I said I try to avoid making a major issue of this as it does become time consuming. I know you to be God's servant and a brother in Christ and that's what counts between all of us that love our Lord. It can make for great discussion as long as we don't lose sight of our duty. I'll never eliminate the new versions and even if I'm right on the issue I could get distracted and become a stumbling block despite the best of intentions. God will direct.

By the way, I'd happily acquire a Texas accent if it would change our weather patterns. Sometimes it seems like 8 months of winter and 4 months poor snowshoeing. Not entirely true but you guys with suntans get the picture.

God's tremendous blessings on you His servant.
John
