from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast...A large area of high pessure located near extreme northern Maine this afternoon is bringing bitterly cold air from the Dakotas eastward to most of New England. Temperatures dropped below zero this morning from eastern portions of the Dakotas, northern New York and most of northern and central New England. Right along the Canadian border, temperatures ranged from 10-to-30 degrees below zero. Wind chills across New England ranged from 30-to-50 degrees below zero early this morning. Wind chill advisories are still in effect for many areas....n Allagash, Maine, the low temperature was 55 degrees below zero. This is the lowest temperature ever recorded in the state of Maine. ...A storm system is moving across the central Appalachians this afternoon with a cold front extending from the storm southwestward across the Tennessee Valley to the central Gulf Coast. Behind this front, much colder air is moving in.
