Ibex,

My broker (to whom I paid a good commission) usually advised me of the "pit" actions. I had a rough idea of who were selling (big boyz or little guys) and to what extent the MMs were "shaking the trees" etc.

In Mid December there was the annual Christmas speech from management to employees. The topic of why the drop in stock price came up. Management indicated that the stock was not placed on the very select listing of Euro stocks for the beginning of 1999. (SAP was to displace Siemens, but it did not happen). This discouraged a few select banks and they subsequently sold some of their holdings. Management did not disclose the names of those banks.

The significance of being listed on the Euro is the immediate availability to all other
Euro countries of the SAP shares as well as their specific stock funds .
It is speculated that it is just a matter of time before SAP fills Siemens seat as the Technology stock to represent the Euro.

BTW - I tip my hat to you for the fine job you have done educating the people on this thread over the years.
