Southern Africa Minerals Corporation - Up Date On The Botswana Diamond Projects
TORONTO, ONTARIO--Exploration on the company's 100 percent owned diamond projects, in Botswana, Africa, has produced more encouraging results.
On the Molopo project, a reverse circulation drill program has resulted in the discovery of eight (8) new kimberlite pipes. The initial microdiamond results were conducted at the laboratories of Lakefield Research, Ontario. The first two drill holes of the phase 1 drill program have recovered two white transparent microdiamonds from 50 kg of drill chips from the Antilope kimberlite (magnetic anomaly 98-110). Layfield Resources Inc. can earn a 75 percent interest in Molopo by expending US $5.0 million over a four-year period and delivering to the company 500,000 shares it holds of Southern Africa Minerals and 1,000,000 shares of Layfield. Contiki Resources Inc. is currently drilling 10 additional holes and has the option to earn a 60 percent interest from Layfield in a portion of the Molopo property. The two Vancouver based junior mining companies are operators of the Molopo project.
On the Mosomane diamond project, microprobe analyses of indicator minerals recovered from the diamond drill core samples processed for microdiamond analyses have confirmed the presence of G10 garnets and of chromites that are compositionally similar to chromite and garnet inclusions in diamond. In addition to the microdiamonds recovered (Press releases of November 2nd and July 21st, 1998), this confirms the potential for an economic diamond discovery on the Mosomane project. Several other targets are scheduled to be tested by drilling later this year.
The Mosomane property is located 50 km north of the capital city of Gaborone in Southeastern Botswana. Molopo is located some 500 km to the southwest of Mosomane. Both properties are located along the same structural lineament that host the Jwaneng Mine, the richest producing diamond mine in the world.
