Keith,
In a open system (not windows), I don't see any advantage for msft software. How msft take advantage of Java appl ? Will you buy a java
appl from msft without fully test or buy a product with a good quality. Currently, MSFT dominant the pc software market because it took the advantage of OS. If it lose this advantage, I don't think they can ship a new product alway ahead of other software vendors. Also from the stock price pt of views, it trade at PE of 58. Do you know more than half of $ make by msft is from the Office, Do you think people will keep on upgrade the product in every year ? In the past five years, MSFT traded at the PE around 35 with a good growth rate. Do you think MSFT can growth in the same rate as past of five years. The PC software market is almost muture. ( msft alway take over the office market) What kinds of new market for then to get the 25% growth every year. I'm a software engineer and work on the windows and NT platform almost 6 years. My sense tell me the software market will change in two years. I see the potential of JAVA just like the windows in six years ago. I can tell you the current price of MSFT is
extra overvalued. some of my friend they work in MSFT start selling the stock in order to keep the profit . But the people outside keep on buying msft. They feel very funny.
