Under the deal, Xoom.com will place eBay, the popular auction site, on its own Web properties. Xoom.com offers free Web space, chat rooms and e-mail service to members, who number about 5.6 million.
"Xoom.com's [membership], which includes a large audience that is already interested in conducting transactions online, will be able to bid on more than 1 million auctions in over 1,000 categories on eBay every day," said Steve Westly, eBay's vice president of marketing and business.
The high-flying eBay (EBAY) jumped 9 13/16, or 4.6 percent, to 225 5/16.
GoTo.com, meanwhile, will become the sole search engine on the Xoom.com sites. And Buydirect.com, a software retailer, will be placed on Xoom.com's e-commerce navigation bar and become an official partner of Xoom.com's software store.
Xoom.com will also include links to its new partners in direct e-mail newsletters to members and will put them in banner rotation throughout Xoom.com's Web properties. See press release. |
