The one thing I don't want is solitary enrollment at an anonymous station, like any networked PC. Nothing is secure at that point, and the authentication is worthless.

But if you are talking about a witnessed enrollment, the one-time cost to the user (in terms of time) is probably significant, no matter what the technology. And it may be necessary.
