Backman, I use a cable modem and it is very reliable. I have a simple network and all my computers are on the Internet through the same modem. I got separate IP for each one of them and it costs me about $9 extra per machine. There is also software SyGate that can be used to avoid extra charges. For more information on this software check sygate.com jack
