I was just having a little click around and while clicking through WirelessKnowledge, it occurred to me this is similar to the early days of the Yahoo! thread. The Wireless Web is going to be huge. Q! and MSFT are sitting in the middle of it with this effort.
Everybody is ignoring it. I suppose not being able to buy shares in it makes a difference. Also, it's a bit of "Well, just what exactly do they do, who are their customers and I don't really get it?"
Maybe it is a Trojan Horse for MSFT. As $ill Gates says, it is vital to be aware of the next thing sneaking up behind you before it is too late. MSFT can dabble in WWEb, be positioned to buy all of QUALCOMM if that's a good idea, use all the wireless brainpower of Q! while leveraging [to coin a phrase] their software and marketing strengths.
MSFT has known for years that wireless internet is the future. They bet on Teledesic. But that is only part of the story. Q! has got the rest of the story.
So I thought I'd dabble my paws in here so I can boast how I was here at the beginning, in a couple of years when things are heating up.
Just repeating these two good summaries:
An Analysis of Wireless Knowledge's Service Barney Dewey, Andrew Seybold Consulting Group, Inc. wirelessknowledge.com
Wireless Data Opportunities Andrew M. Seybold wirelessknowledge.com
Having been a corporate person who would love to have had such a service, I can confirm that WK will have wild success. Of course there will be competition, but MSFT and Q! are well positioned to compete and clean up.
The chaotic WebWorld of individual subscribers, random internet providers and Yahoo! will become ordered and we'll all want a nice WirelessKnowledge connection for our pdQs, our notebook computers and secure communications.
Steve, did you go to the 7 December forum at which you said Irwin Jacobs would talk?
