One more thought . . .

If you simply have a $6 (or whatever) smart card reader to read out data on a self-authenticating biometric smart card, you have rendered the biometrics meaningless. Anyone could have stolen the card and without an authentication challenge at the POS terminal, the biometric ID doesn't come into play at all. It's just another card, except it can be carrying value that can be entirely lost -- not just the $50 cap now provided by credit card companies.

So you will need the same POS equipment for any biometric smart card -- a smart card reader AND a scanner.

In short, whatever you get in convenience with a self-authenticating biometric card, you lose in security, so it fails to add the value you are looking for. I think this product is strategically flawed.
