I lived through the bio-tech craze. I'm just afraid to have the onus of selecting the 'survivor' in the internet arena. You could say that AOL, AMZN, YHOO, and possibly SEEK are the real long-term deals. But CMGI, as a venture fund, is vulnerable on a business model standpoint.

I agree with you that if you pick the right internet play, you'll definitely make 4-10X you money in 5 years. But if you day-trade disciplinely, you could get 1-3X returns in a single year. Yes, you could lose too. But being an active trader, I would continue to short-term trade the most volatile vehicles. For long-term investing, I'll stick with the S&P 500 blue-chip beaters.
