"Spiegel stock likely to keep rising
-Business Week

NEW YORK, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Retailer Spiegel Inc.
(Nasdaq:SPGLA - news) has seen its stock jump not only on the company's fundamentals, but also because it is a rumored takeover target, according to Business Week magazine.

Business Week reported in its Jan. 25 issue that Spiegel's class A stock jumped from 3-1/2 in early December to 7-3/16 on Jan. 13.

Business Week said online sales still count for a modest percent of Spiegel's total sales, but they tripled during the recent holiday season.

Investment manager Mark Boyar told the magazine he believes Internet sales could hit $300 million, or 10 percent of the total in a year.

Business Week said Spiegel had total sales of $2.6 billion for the year ended Jan. 2, 1999, although the company continued to show a loss.

Spiegel offers its products through catalogs, the Internet and 550 retail stores. It also owns the Eddie Bauer chain."
