William, thanks for sharing your feelings. I'm not sure whether your coming over here is genuine and heartfelt, or totally disengenuous, but I'm sure Alexa, Penni, Janice, and the other people who felt really denigrated over their treatment at the SI "improvement" thread will shortly voice their opinions.
Reading 282 posts in an hour is grueling work, and I lost track of who the really obnoxious posters were. I can surely remember there were plenty of them, and that it really does only take a fraction of a second to speed-read a post and push "next"! What is wrong with just leaving it that way?? The whole experience was depressing, as I saw much polarization and very little real communication.
I don't know how this debate so quickly went off the rails, because I think most people who patronize SI truly want it to thrive and serve the needs of the people who enjoy it. I am really disappointed!! I can definitely say that it's really a lapse in judgment to underestimate the intelligence and tenacity of the women on this thread. They are fierce and unyielding!! Also brilliant, highly educated, and universally respected by the truly intelligent men who have entered into any sort of real dialogue with them.
One thing I'm sure of, and that is that I have no intention of letting this wonderfully sweet and positive place that I have worked so hard on to bring to fruition, with a lot of help from people I respect immensely and think are way cool, besides, deteriorate into bad vibes like the ones happening over there. If you guys want to fight some more, I will go over there with you and defend freedom of speech forever, but please keep the debate away from here. It's way too ugly to be appropriate for this thread.
It seems that under some of the proposed new rules, thread founders would have absolute power on their own threads, and so I, in the spirit not of dominance but of benign benevolence, hereby declare this a place for supportive friendship and loving, free-thinking, fantasizing, laughing, and truth seeking, good and bad poetry writing and play fighting, but no bad vibes!!
In the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"
Now, on a totally unrelated topic, could you please answer the following questions for me regarding hydrocephalus, since you are a neurologist/neurosurgeon?
Is alcoholism a recognized cause or contributing factor?
Is there any genetic component at all?
What is the quality of life after a shunt procedure? Life expectancy?
Thanks, and peace as well (hope springs eternal)!!
