Don't do it, Ken! We signed off cable a year ago, and since then my wife and I read 3 times as many books, play the piano alot more, and talk alot more!

But then, the TV is a good "babysitter" for the folks. (And I should add, we probably spend more money on rented videos than we had been on the cable access).

In our area, Time Warner serves as an ISP through a cable modem that they install. Right now installation is free (normally $40-$100, depending on the area) and the monthly cost is about $40/month for unlimited use. The speed is infinitely faster than a phone line, and about twice as fast as an ISDN connection, and it doesn't tie up a phone line. We were former subscribers, and so do not have to pay for the laying of the cable. Use of the web is unrestricted, and both Netscape and Explorer can be used. And it works fine on a Mac.

TW is not the only cable service provider. There are other local companies that supply Web access through the TV cable.

TC.
