My limited understanding of the interoperability issue

You may have noticed that Schmidt's first hires were top people in the object oriented field. I'm not sure what has happened to the standards being developed for interoperable programs over the network but this is one area where Schmidt has very good vision.

A Novell home run would work like this.

-1- Netware sales that indicate growing revenue quarters to come.
-2- MSFT postpones Net2000 release until after Y2K.
-3- Other anti-MSFT partners come forward and announce their support for NDS as the standard.
-4- NDS is used for some major network application that catches fire with the internet community.
-5- A bidding war breaks out amongst the very deep pocket telecom based networking companies for NOVL.

I still think Novell could do more to move Netware into the hands of end users. Small Biz 4.2 is a notch above SOHO and home network type setups. Someone at Novell should think small and have an Amazon.com mentality. You just need the mentality, you don't have to sell books!
