Tampa Electric Company Selects NHC's Switchex/DVS Cross Connect Matrix Switch To Manage Their Voice Network
MONTREAL, Jan. 15 /CNW/ - The Tampa Electric Company (TECO) has awarded NHC with a purchase agreement to fulfill the immediate requirement for 4 of its 26 sites with Switchex/DVS Cross Connect Matrix Switches, and are planning for a minimum provisioning of another 5 sites later in 1999. The combined 9 sites represent a $1 million CDN sale for NHC. The first site was installed and is presently functional. Switchex/DVS will provide complete and effective automated management of TECO's physical layer voice network. TECO will primarily use the Switchex/DVS to manage all line provisioning and subscriber moves, add and changes (MAC) for the first nine (9) of their remote locations. TECO has been extremely impressed by the cost saving benefits to be had with the turnkey solution proposed by NHC, as confirmed by Stan Gorlick, General Manager Telecommunications at TECO: ''Switchex/DVS is the only product that is specifically designed for carrier class applications, which has allowed us to avoid the huge expenses normally associated with manual cross connects, especially for remote sites.'' Switchex/DVS design is the cutting edge of technology, with its powerful and scaleable physical layer cross connect hardware that can accommodate up to 5,400 paired circuits, and with a built in test port which makes it ideal for quick and easy connection of diagnostic test equipment to any of the lines. This facilitates the provisioning, maintenance and replacement of telecommunication lines. The software component also integrates state-of-the-art technological design principles and provides support for both pre-configured and user-defined scenarios. In addition, this highly flexible and versatile GUI based SNMP Connection Management software allows for unattended local or remote operation for multiple switches controlled by one host system. The Switchex/DVS flexible design can handle a variety of other communication protocols such as XDSL, T1, ISDN and can also be used in fall back switching scenarios. ''The Telecommunications Group at TECO was quick to realize the potential savings in operating costs associated with remote travel and manual cross connects provided with our Switchex/DVS,'' remarked Peter Benisti, V.P. North American Sales at NHC. He went on to say, ''NHC is the key player addressing this niche market, as our goal is to provide our customers with total control over the entire physical layer of their telecommunications infrastructure.''
