PC Mag Tests Reveal That MMX Machines With S3 Accelerators Deliver The
Highest WinMark Performance

S3 Accelerators Combined with MMX Processors Deliver the
Highest Performing Business Desktop and Home Computers

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Demonstrating the powerful
combination of MMX processors and graphics accelerators, S3 Incorporated
(Nasdaq: SIII) announced today the results of PC Magazine's MMX systems review
(February 4th issue.) Running the Ziff-Davis benchmarks, PC Magazine awarded
two out of the three Editor's Choice Awards to machines using S3's ViRGE and
ViRGE/VX 3D accelerators and Intel's MMX processor. The machines include a
business PC (Gateway P55C-200 FPC and home PC (Micron Millenia MXE P200) -
indicating that S3-branded products deliver the highest WinMark performance in
both of these markets.
"These awards prove, without a doubt, that S3 continues to be the
performance leader in the home and consumer markets," said Gary Johnson,
president and CEO of S3 Incorporated. "Over the past two years, we've worked
very closely with Intel to ensure S3 accelerators complement and enhance MMX
processors -- and PC Magazine's review validates this fact."
For the home market, the Gateway P55C-200 FPC featuring the ViRG/VX and
delivered the highest ZD business graphics WinMark 97. Based on Ziff-Davis
testing, the Gateway system scored 77 WinMarks, leaving competitors behind at
51 WinMarks and lower. For the business desktop market, the Micron Millennia
MXE P200 featuring the ViRGE accelerator, scored 77 WinMarks, leaving its
competitors behind at 69 WinMarks and lower. In addition to these editor's
choice machines, PC Magazine also reviewed ViRGE-powered systems from AST,
Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Packard Bell -- all of which scored extremely high
WinMarks.

MMX Machines Based on S3 Multimedia Accelerators
In conjunction with Intel's MMX announcement earlier this month, a number
of S3 customers unveiled MMX machines powered by S3's ViRGE and ViRG/VX 3D
accelerators; the Trio64V+ and Trio64V2 2D accelerators; and the Aurora64V+
mobile accelerator. These systems demonstrate the next generation multimedia
machines that take advantage of MMX processors and S3 multimedia accelerators
to deliver powerful solutions. Inside these new machines, Intel's MMX
processor raises the baseline multimedia performance of the PC, while S3's 2D
and 3D accelerators drive this performance to even higher levels.
