<< Lets see if that happened, stock in 3 companies with the effectiveness of MSFT would add up to......hmm oh yeah...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ >>
Which is what the MSFT opponents here have always said. I think breaking them up is a good idea for the public, the industry, the employees, MSFT stockholders, and even Bill Gates, who has far too many eggs in one basket.
I used to think MSFT was only resisting this so Gates would have a fig leaf to cover his diversification away from MSFT stock. But obviously, they have put up a pretty tough fight, so I had him all wrong with that particular theory. Overestimated him, I guess.
In any event, the worst solution for everybody would be if they left the company in one piece but hobbled it in it's decisions a priori.
So, hopefully, the breakup. Read some old posts of Gerry's for some interesting ideas about how to do that. I also contributed some ideas on appropriate divisions, maybe six months or a year ago, as did some others. Bork is robbing us! :0)
