Here's how I looked at Ellison's comments about Novell:

Think of yourself in a flea market in Tijuana. You spot something that you really like amongst all the junk. You ask the peddler about it and feign shock at the price, yet you still really want it. You start to walk away, the peddler tries to engage you. You disparage the item, pointing out all it's little flaws, offer a ridiculous low-ball price and walk away again.

That's what *I* think Larry Ellison is doing when he says things like this. He KNOWS these comments get back to Marengi, Young, etc. Not that I believe he's GOING to buy Novell, just that it's caught his imagination. Remember, Ellison's a VERY shrewd man and he's very brash. I don't believe he got to where he is by pussy-footing at the negotiating table.
