That is correct. Edison used the execution of animals to try to scare the shit out of people so that they would demand his DC system over the clearly superior AC system that Tesla said would be needed. Terrence would have been cheering him on.

Of course AC ultimately won out. The main flaw with a DC system is the huge power losses that occur while transmitting the power over any distance. We would need a generating station for every square mile, approximately. Tesla clearly saw this problem and that the solution was to use transformers to increase the voltage for transmission over great distances, and to decrease the voltage at the point of use. That's why you will find a transformer very near your house to step the voltage down, and the huge towers carrying the high voltage lines across country. Tesla was right and Edison ultimately lost that one to the laws of physics.
