SGI has been on a heavy-duty VAR recruitment effort for the past few months. By the end of the year, it will increase its number of channel partners by approximately one-third to 2,000 worldwide, including 600 in the United States. Roughly half of the VARs will sell NT systems, with just 20 to 25 percent selling Unix workstations exclusively by the end of 1999, Arnesen says.
One major addition to SGI's channel is $2.5 billion Entex Information Services Inc., located in Rye Brook, N.Y. "[The company] is strong in the financial markets, chemicals and pharmaceuticals-where we have limited distribution," Arnesen says........ The company continues to focus on the high end, with systems scaling into thousands of processors.
