I also chose the people I associated with very carefully. There were people in my class who would be happy to insult and belittle a person face to face, although I agree there is a certain license created when it can be done anonymously.

And I too hope this is only Joe's SI persona but I have a little more doubt about his real personality than you do. It was not his comments to women that disturbed me the most, but rather his emasculization of the men with whom he was arguing. Denigrating women is relatively common but the type of insults he was hurling at other men was something I remember from highschool, when boys are just learning to deal with their sexuality. It is understandable in boys and very young men, and Joe may be young, but if he isn't then it IS disturbing. You visit more threads than I do, do men on other threads act that way? Calling someone a fool is one thing, what Joe did was something else entirely, IMO.
