Thanks for your input, Ptaskmater. After reading several websites about cat-converters I discovered that many versions, particularly those with multiple chambers, use both PT and PD. And, as you mentioned, PD is an important catalyst in industrial reactions involving hydrogen, such as for the commercial production of hydrogen peroxide. I also discovered an interesting fact that China is going to mandate cat-converters in cars and mini-buses starting in Y2K, a development that will certainly increase future demand for PGE's.
