R.Bond, << My experience with an on line firm >>
I won't mention the name, but my experience was if the spread
was 7 1/4 x 7 3/8, and I was market buying, I could expect it to be filled at 7 7/16 minimum. If a market sell it would be filled at 7 3/16 maximum.
Kind made me think someone was taking 1/16 for themselves in between. Always took a couple hours to confirm adding to my suspicion.
No wonder they can move trades so cheap. I now stay with a discount
broker (T.Rowe Price) who isn't perfect, especially on those 1 billion volume days, but seldom do my market fills go above the ask. Only on fast movers, to be expected. No flat fee trading, but not too
bad with my discounts for volume trading and their teletrader. Gives
me 19% off of typical costs. I could get another 10% online, but don't
like going through servers on busy days.
