DELL UNVEILS NETWORKING SERVICE
Jan. 15, 1999 (InformationWeek - CMP via COMTEX) -- Dell Computer this week will launch Dell Networks, a service designed to make it easier for growing businesses to set up networks. Dell will provide hardware, software, and technical support, while Wang Global will conduct site surveys and perform installations.
The service will eliminate the need for companies with 100 or fewer employees to deal with numerous vendors, contractors, and suppliers when implementing a network, Dell says. One-stop shopping was a selling point for test site Rapid Tooling Inc., a $1.2 million Dallas company that makes assembly tools for the electronics industry. "Doing it this way saved hours of my time," says Kelley Spinks, a designer who acts as Rapid Tooling's IS person.
While the cost of the service will vary, a typical setup can run to slightly more than $11,000. Dell will build the networks around its PowerEdge servers. This week, it will introduce a new model in that line, the PowerEdge 1300. Prices start at $1,699. |
