I was looking at news release from Merrill Lynch, figured it is a high profile Co. and an example to follow....

"Merrill Lynch Japan to boost sales staff  (Reuters)
TOKYO, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch Japan Securities, a unit of Merrill Lynch & Co (NYSE: MER - news ), said on Tuesday it planned to boost its sales staff by about 200 by the end of this year from a current 1,000.."

They don't write that they cannot give assurances that they will fully hit that number of employees.

They don't tell us that they have (or do not have) the clients to be served by these employees.

They don't tell us how they will pay those employees.

Neither do they say that the business climate could change for the worse making these hirings not necessary and the firing of personnel necessary (and the market has its ups and downs, and MER has been known to fire boatloads of employees).

This is what gets me with these clarifications. The genius that wrote it wants to be, as we say here, "more catholic than the Pope". MER does not have to do these masochistic "doom and gloom" "clarifications", we do.

I suggest that we should change their names to "obscure-izations" or "scare-izations" or "upset-izations".
