Don't you know that Cable can carry voice too? Better yet, cable can carry digital voice embedded with digital video showing your loved one smiling at you on the screen while you hearing them giggle on the phone. ADSL is not suitable for this application. Actually, it is my understanding that ADSL is more suitable for voice than cable because it is more able to deliver on quality of service. While transfering data might be fine with slight interruptions, this is not acceptable in real-time voice transmission. Even if you select ADSL service, in a few years you will be forced to switch to cable since all of people around are enjoying true multimedia experience with Cable. I don't think that support for this type of bandwidth with good enough quality will be available for at least 5-10 years. Even so, ADSL and VDSL can support it, at least for those who are close enough to their CO, and the quality will be better than cable because each DSL connection does not have share the same connection to their CO as does a cable solution.
