Unless you get advise to the contrary, I would agree with JW and protect the PCB from the point load of the screw. This is also the usual relationship in mechanical fastening.

Thanks..I did it JW's way. I could not imagine anyone trying to get those washers on the back side of the mobo. When all else fails use common sense.

I did not understand all the talk about shorting out the mobo. I have metal to metal contact on the back of the board at the screw connections. The washers are on the front side between the screw head and the mobo.

Now to put in the harddrive. I just cloned an OS from this machine to the 17 gig drive using PM. This IWILL mobo did not detect the Maxtor correctly. On first boot I went to bios and the IDE autodetect had the wrong number in the cylinder column. I changed it to match the data imprinted on the drive sticker. The master slave jumper settings are also on the drive sticker. Two points for Maxtor.

When I took out the drive and plugged the CDROM back in the IDE secondary master slot I forgot to go back into the bios. I got an error message about a bad drive. I continued and shut down and entered the bios. The autodetect found the CDROM...I saved and exited and this machine is back to normal

I don't think the wife is going to let me leave MAX on the living room floor for long. Better get back to work. So far I have about three hours invested in the assembly..so far so good.
