Actually the 900% understates the situation. If Compaq had bid on the company in October or early November when the price was under $2 (see #reply-6605973 ), they would have:

1. Paid a much lower price/share but also

2. They would have avoided the substantial share dilution (alluded to elsewhere in the article) due to the approximately 2 million shares from the floorless convertible (convertible on Dec. 8) and exercise of some warrants and options which are profitable at $19/share but not at a much lower price.
