Wiinter's OK if it stays cold but it never does and everything turns to mush. We have about 2ft or a little more, Buffalo, 60miles west has about 4 ft. That's a lot of snow. Hard to find places to put it all. My neighbor borrowed my shovel right before the BIG snow fell and took off with it. (He lives in various locations). Out makin' the big bucks shoveling driveways. Had to pay someone to get my car out. Now I have to buy another shovel. Found it quite amusing. Today was warmer.
>>has several threaded mounting screw holes on back side for different boards, AT, AT Baby, ATX<<
OK, that may explain it--I was responding to Zeuspaul in particular who had to move some kind of metal mound from one spot on the case to another to match the mounting spots on the board. Perhaps those mounds were placed for a different type of board. What kind of case did you buy--I'm currently shopping. So far I've checked InWinn and SuperMicro. I like the modular design of the InWinn and the web-site is well put together too. Ordered tested Celeron and Abit board from Minotaur. Would have liked to get it from CompuCheap because of the longer testing time, but he's suspended sales on that part for now. Minotaur also told me that their short testing time actually finds a very high percentage of defective processors, or in his words:
Our tests range in time, some are upwards to 8 hours, but in general its done over 30 minutes. Why 30 minutes? Because 90% of problems come up within the first minute or two. The remaining 10% tend to happen during the first 15 to 20 minutes. Thus the 30 minute test. So far we've sold over 500 pretested Celerons, and have only had one complaint (that we know of) which was resolved today. The user had removed the heatsink/fan on the CPU and replaced it with their own which caused tons of problems.
Still waiting to see if I actually get shipped from Minotaur since he is also quite backed up.
>>Seems the reason for the ATX was to get more ports on board, mouse, keyboard, Parallel, com, serial (2),USB etc: thereby freeing up slots. To do this a reconfiguration was in order. The board had to be longer, taller if you are looking at it installed. The onboard ports are in upper left corner thereby giving exterior access to these.
I didn't know there were that many changes, but then, I didn't ask. If time was longer I'd be looking into all these things.
Well, my brain has had it for today. Glad to see you made it back. Good luck with the project, wily |
