Rick, One last explanation. I've been PM'd enough on it. When the
Brazilian devaluation quickly dipped the market, I had my eye on
alyd, along with others. When I saw bid 6 3/8 and ask 6 1/2 I place
the buy order at 6 1/2. Can't miss eh! Buy at ask. The broker read
the order back, I confirmed, he submitted. Maybe 10 seconds. Suddenly
bid was 6 1/2 and ask 6 9/16. All 6 1/2 filled before mine placed. Then 6 9/16 bid and 6 5/8 ask. Less than 1 minute. It turned fast as many stocks did. Had I placed a market it would have filled at 6 9/16 for a sweet ride to 8 1/2 that same day.
I don't like chasing stocks running up fast. Good way to buy the
peak. When Tava opened, I saw the spread. Looked the same so to be
sure and get in I did a market. Win some lose some, but at least I
have the Tava for when it runs. Unlike alyd, Tava turned. Never know. Rarely do I do a market unless I see a big weighted bid. Just got caught this time. Sometimes it works, sometimes get burned. If you'll check you'll see alyd hasn't been below 7's, since my order. That time a market would have been a few fast bucks.
