BODY: Big Play Records, the label owned by Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Michael Jackson, has signed an exclusive distribution agreement in the United States and Canada with Navarre Corp.
The label has slated the anticipated return of R&B group Shai as its first release, scheduled to hit Feb. 16. Subsequent releases include a CD from rap duo, the Alley Katz, later this year.
"Adding Big Play Records to our list of distribution labels will add versatility to the company," said Jim Chiado, vp and general manager of music distribution at Navarre Corp. "Navarre is interested in signing prestigious companies such as this to our roster."
Founded in 1997, Big Play Records released Raw Elements' "My Steez," who will record on Solid Disc/Navarre from now on. The label is a subsidiary of Big Play Entertainment, along with 81 Music Publishing and Sports and Entertainment International.
"We're convinced that (Navarre's) efforts in conjunction with those of Big Play's staff, will make a major impact in the major and minor secondary markets across the U.S. and Canada," said Anthony Hammond, vp and general manager, Big Play Records.
