A friend of mine who works for Ascend Communications told me that the entire company in Alameda and Mountain view had a meeting with Lucent management last Thursday and Friday. In that meeting the CEO of Lucent asked the audience to name the 2 fastest growing company in the US at this time. All sorts of names were brought up (most of which included Lucent of course). The CEO then said there are 2 companies that are going to truly shine in 1999 and beyond: 1. Lucent. 2. Compaq.
