Does anyone have any commentary on the SAHARA purchase and the ultimate impact it will have on the price and earnings???

WESTFORD, Mass., Jan 29 (Reuter) - Cascade Communications Corp said on Wednesday it completed the purchase of Sahara Networks Inc for 3.8 million shares, valuing Sahara at $216.5 million. Cascade had 98,725 shares in issue at end-1996.

Cascade said a one-time charge equal to a "substantial portion" of the purchase price would be taken to pay for bringing Sahara's products to commercial availability, and for other costs associated with the transaction.

A spokeswoman for Cascade said she was unable to give more details of the charge. The acquisition, under purchase accounting rules, will be taken in the first quarter of 1997.

The spokeswoman said that Sahara's high speed communication products were expected to be market-ready by the second quarter. These include multiplexers and concentrators for broadband access. Broadband is the term for products which can carry video and other high volume applications. (( Nick Louth, New York Newsroom 212 859 1712))

Any commentary would be appreciated....FRED
